Kontera Review
September 12, 2008
Kontera is an inline PPC ( pay per click ) advertising network. It is a little different than your traditional Google Adsense. How it works is, you will insert a javascript code into your index page. It will then double underline keywords on your website. You can set how many keywords are allowed to be underlined per page. When a mouse hovers over the link a little ad popup shows related to that keyword. If someone clicks on it, you get paid.
Based on my research from what others are reporting, the earnings per click are much lower then Adsense or YPN. The ad targeting is also poor compared to Adsense, so clickthrough rates will be lower. Kontera is only open to English sites and they pay by check with a minimum $100. They say it takes 5 business days to get accepted, but it took about 2 weeks before I got in.
Google Adsense’s new policies now allow Kontera along with Adsense. If you are using Google Adsense already, I would not bother with using Kontera though. There is no reason to have people click on ads that pay much lower rates than Adsense.
A while back I tried to add the content on this blog just as a test and I didn’t care for the look, so immediately removed it. Some people put it on forums so users posts are highlighted. I think that is a better use of it than on blogs, although you probably will annoy your forum users trying to monetize their very words. All in all i’m not a fan of it, but you might want to give it a try and see if it works for you.
